CLAYMONT – Archmere kicked off its homecoming weekend in grand style, shutting out St. Elizabeth, 8-0, in field hockey on the afternoon of Oct. 7. Six players scored for the Auks, who improved to 5-2 after their third straight win.

After an early goal by Taylor Risnychoke, the Auks added a second tally at the 17:00 mark of the first half. Archmere earned a penalty corner and worked the ball around the circle to Lauren Ross. She beat Vikings goalie Jill Aranilla to the near side.
St. Elizabeth called a timeout, and the brief respite seemed to breathe some life into the Vikings. They controlled most of the possession for several minutes, although they did not produce many shots out of those opportunities. Two penalty corners also did not result in any goals.
Archmere picked up another penalty corner late in the half, and again the team converted. This time, Meghan Reilly tapped the ball into the cage following a scramble in front of Aranilla, who had saved a previous attempt before Reilly found the ball.
The Auks put the game away with five second half goals. Lorin Donovan and Delaney Dearing each had a pair, and Leah DaCosta added the other.
Archmere outshot St. Elizabeth, 25-9, and had 11 penalty corners to the Vikings’ six. The Auks travel to Hockessin on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. meeting with Sanford. St. Elizabeth (3-4) returns to action Tuesday at Dickinson at 3:45 p.m.
