The Year of Mercy proclaimed by Pope Francis will be a theme at many of the two-hour workshop courses this year at SACRED — Salesianum Adult Christian Religious Education Day, Feb. 27, at Salesianum School in Wilmington.

There will be a total of 28 courses during the morning and afternoon sessions.

Thomas Vresics, a teacher in Salesianum’s religious studies department, said this year’s program is placing emphasis in helping parents of elementary and high school students “witness to their children about the importance of their Catholic Faith.” The courses are designed to help parents speak to their children “in new and fresh ways” about the faith.

As always, the workshop sessions aim to provide continuing faith formation for all Catholic adults and are useful for religious ed teachers and parish leaders.

More than two dozen topics by presenters in morning and afternoon SACRED sessions include: God’s Mercy in Action: Biblical/Salesian Views of God’s Response to Human Sin: Merciful Confrontation: Nurturing Better Marriage and Family Relationships; Passion Narratives: Are the Evangelists Telling the Same Story or Not?; Between Jesus and Allah: Islam and the Catholic Church; St. John Bosco’s Preventive System: Adults as Confident Guides for Teens; Mercy Me! God’s Response to Human Suffering; and A Jubilee of Mercy: The Joys and Challenges of Parenting and Teaching Children and Teens with Learning Issues, Attention Deficit, Mental or Physical illness.
