Bishop Malooly will celebrate Masses
Bishop Malooly will commemorate the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on New York City, at the
Pentagon, and Shanksville, Pa., with two Masses on Sunday, Sept. 11. The first Mass will take place at St. Hedwig Church, Linden and Harrison streets in Wilmington, at 9 a.m. The second Mass will be an outdoor Mass of Remembrance at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 32112 Vines Creek Road in Dagsboro, at 4 p.m. Both Masses are open to the public. At the Masses, those who were killed in the terrorist attacks on the United States, including first responders, will be remembered, and prayers for peace will be prayed.

Sept. 11: St. Jude the Apostle Church, Lewes, weekend observances of Patriot Day. Four weekend Masses, 4:30 pm Sept. 10, and 7, 8:30, and 10 am Sept. 11. Moment of silence at 8:48 am during the 8:30 am liturgy, marking the exact time the first plane crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center on 9/11/01. Police and Fire Chiefs from local agencies have been invited to be present. After the 10 am Mass, a color corps from the Fr. Vincent Capodanno 4th Degree Assembly of the Knights of Columbus will lead the congregation outside to the flag pole with lowering of the flag to half mast, taps, and placing of a memorial wreath. After the ceremonies, participants will gather again in church, where they may share memories and stories about those who lost their lives in this great tragedy. Veterans are reminded that military regulations permit them to wear medals earned in the service, and all visitors are encouraged to wear patriotic colors for all liturgies.
Sept. 11, 3 p.m.: Holy Hour in Honor of the Holy Family, St. Patrick’s Church, Wilmington. Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus All are invited to come and pray for our own families.
Sept. 11, 4 p.m.: Interfaith memorial service commemorating the victims of the Sept 11, 2001 terror attacks. Holy Rosary Church, 3200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont. Religious leaders from the local Hindu, Muslim, and Jewish faith communities as well as other Christian denominations have been invited to attend. There will be light refreshments served after the service. All are welcome.
