Bishop Malooly is asking parishes in the Diocese of Wilmington to host Holy Hours for the success of Pope Francis’ visit to the United States next month.
In a letter to parish pastors last week, the bishop said the Holy Hours would help Catholics “spiritually prepare” for the pope’s Sept. 22-27 visit in conjunction with the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia.
Parishes in the diocese are asked to hold the prayer services on Monday, Sept. 21, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Bishop Malooly asked pastors to invite all parishioners, “especially families,” to the parish Holy Hour.
In order to encourage families to unite in prayer, the diocesan Catholic Education department has been asked to contact principals, DREs, youth ministers and campus ministries to ensure no homework is assigned that day at schools and all religious education classes and ministry activities are cancelled for that night.
“We have the opportunity to be richly blessed by joining in prayer,” the bishop noted.
