Interested in attending World Youth Day in Krakow, Poland, in 2016?
The diocesan Office for Catholic Youth Ministry is conducting a survey to gauge the interest of young adults in the Diocese in attending the Krakow event.
World Youth Day, established by St. John Paul II in 1985, is an international gathering of youth and young adults for prayer, worship and celebration of the Catholic faith.
The Diocese of Wilmington has sent delegates to World Youth Day in Denver, 1993; Manila, 1995; Paris, 1997; Rome, 2000; Toronto, 2002; Cologne, 2005; Sydney, 2008; and Madrid, 2011.
Patrick Donovan, director of the Office for Catholic Youth Ministry, said he anticipates the diocesan pilgrimage to Krakow’s World Youth Day could cost up to $4,000.
The online survey, which closes Dec. 1, will help determine how the diocese might arrange the pilgrimage trip.
The Youth Ministry office states on its website that “no one who is under the age of 16 on July 1, 2016 will be permitted to attend” unless a parent accompanies them. “No single delegates (traveling without a minor child) over the age of 39 on July 1, 2016 (with the exception of clergy, religious, or designated chaperones) will be permitted to attend the religious pilgrimage for young people.”
