The recent rainy weather held off during the celebration of the annual outdoor Memorial Day Field Mass at All Saints Cemetery on the Kirkwood Highway in Wilmington, May 30 at 10 a.m.
Bishop Malooly presided over the blessing at the Bishop’s Memorials and Priests Graves, and was the main celebrant and homilist of the Mass. Approximately 450 people attended; a brief military tribute including a three-volley salute, and the playing of Taps, was presented by VFW Post 475 prior to the Mass, and the Knights of Columbus served as Honor Guard.
This marks the 57th year for the event, which honors the deceased of the Diocese of Wilmington, especially those who served in the military, heroes who died in the service of our country, and first responders who gave their lives in the name of public safety.
