WILMINGTON – Salesianum got big contributions from its seniors in a 7-3 senior day win over Indian River on May 18. Senior Zach Miller had two hits and drove in three runs, and the Sals’ defense turned four double plays.
The Sals (12-6) got on the board first in the second inning. Joe Setting led off with a triple, and Quinn Cassidy walked and stole second base. Senior Brett Nordmeyer then hit a one-out single, driving in both runs.

The Indians got one back in the third inning as Kevin Custis hit a one-out RBI single. Salesianum answered with a pair in the bottom of the third, one on a wild pitch and one on a single by Alex Hinton.
Miller drove in the next three runs for the Sals. His single in the fourth inning brought in two, and the final run came in after his sixth-inning knock.
Hinton picked up the win with four innings of solid pitching. Jackson Fiala pitched the final three innings for the Sals, who will now wait to see where they end up in the state tournament that starts on May 27. A top-eight seeding would earn them a first-round home game.
The Indians (5-12) finish their season with a road contest Saturday at 10 a.m. against Delmarva Christian.
