Religious educators honor Ed Gordon

The Association of Religious Education Administrators (AREA) celebrated the ministry of Edmond Gordon at its December meeting, as Gordon retired after nearly 30 years of service with the diocese as secretary of the Catholic Education Department and director of the Office for Religious Education.

During the luncheon, Tae Kang, a theology teacher at St. Elizabeth High School, spoke about Gordon’s many accomplishments. Gordon, Kang said, was the visionary, producer and promoter of the Echoes of Faith video-assisted catechist program. He helped prepare thousands of English- and Spanish-speaking catechists for work in parishes.

Sister Sally Russell, formerly an associate director of religious education in the diocese, talked about Gordon’s service on the executive committee for the International Forum for Adult Faith Formation and also on the Conference of Bishops Committee on Catechesis. Gordon presented at conferences around the world, said Sister Sally, now the coordinator of curriculum and catechist formation for the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
