Obituary: Sister Evelyn Cahill, OSF

ASTON, Pa. – Franciscan Sister Evelyn Cahill, who once ministered at St. Patrick Convent in Wilmington, died March 2 in Assisi House. She was 85 and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 63 years.

Cahill 1953_Evelyn Mary65Sister Evelyn, formerly known as Sister Marie Philomene, was born in Fall River, Mass. She ministered primarily in domestic work in the convents where she lived, and she cared for children in orphanages in Massachusetts and New Jersey.

She worked in the dioceses of Trenton, Fall River, Metuchen, N.J., and Camden, N.J., and the archdioceses of Boston and Baltimore.

Her sister, Franciscan Sister Ann Cahill, currently serves in prayer ministry in St. Ann Convent in Tacoma, Wash.

All services will be held in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, Aston, Pa., on March 9. A Christian wake service will be held at 9:30 a.m. followed by viewing and a Mass of Christian Burial at 11. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Donations in her name can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, PA 19014.
