CLAYMONT — John J. Jordan, an English teacher and director of admissions at Archmere Academy, has been named the school’s principal, effective July 1. He will succeed William Doyle, who will return full-time to the classroom beginning next year.
Jordan is a 1980 graduate of Archmere.
Jordan taught at Archmere from 1987-98 and returned in 2001. In addition to teaching English, he has been a newspaper moderator, cross country, basketball and track coach. He added the admissions duties five years ago while continuing to coach cross country.
After graduating from Archmere, Jordan earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s from the University of Delaware. He is currently completing the course work for his doctoral thesis on American Civil War letters at Delaware.
He and his wife, Noreen, live in Wilmington with their four children.
