The Delaware Catholic Advocacy Network (DCAN) is asking parents who send their children to Catholic schools to contact their representatives and Gov. Jack Markell to save the “minimal stipend” that reimburses part of the transportation cost for children in nonpublic schools.
According to an email sent May 11 by DCAN, Catholic school families “save the state millions of dollars while supporting Delaware’s public school with their taxes.”
But now, the transportation stipend for Catholic school families “may be cut from the budget.”
As the Delaware General Assembly decides on the state’s 2016 budget in the weeks ahead, the Catholic advocacy group is asking Catholic parents to “send an email to your representatives and the governor” urging them to keep the stipend.
