Franciscan Sister Claudia Cunningham, who taught at two schools in diocese, dies at 88

ASTON, Pa. – Sister Claudia Cunningham, who ministered in the Diocese of Wilmington for 12 years, died Nov. 19 in Assisi House. She was 88 and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 63 years.

Cunningham 1952_Claudia116Sister Claudia, a Trenton, N.J., native, was a teacher at Holy Angels School in Newark and also worked in pastoral ministry at Immaculate Conception Parish in Elkton, Md., St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Wilmington and at the FHS Care Center.

She also ministered in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Services were Nov. 25 in Aston, with burial at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. Donations in Sister Claudia’s name can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, PA 19014.
