Franciscan Sister Columbkill O’Connor, former teacher, dies at 102

ASTON, Pa. – Sister Columbkill O’Connor, who spent three years teaching in the Diocese of Wilmington, died Nov. 6 at Assisi House. She was 102 and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia since 1938.

columbkillIn the diocese, she taught at St. Mary School in Wilmington and Immaculate Conception in Elkton, Md. She spent 52 years in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, primarily in education but also in parish ministry, and 13 years in the Archdiocese of Washington.

Services for Sister Columbkill, who was born in County Kerry, Ireland, are Thursday in Aston. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. at Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, Aston, with burial in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. Donations in her name can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, PA 19014.
