Obituary: Sister Anne Gallagher, OSF, former nurse in diocese

ASTON, Pa.Sister Anne Gallagher, who ministered in the Diocese of Wilmington for 13 years, died Jan. 12 in Assisi House. She was 74 and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 49 years.

A native of Washington, N.J., Sister Anne worked at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington from 1974-81. She returned to the diocese as the school nurse at Holy Spirit School in New Castle from 2000-05 and then spent a year as a nurse and administrative assistant at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, also in New Castle.

Formerly known as Sister Margaret Leo, she also ministered in health care and pastoral services in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the dioceses of Lancaster and Allentown, Pa. She was most recently director of senior services for her congregation.

Services will be held at Our Lady of Angels Convent chapel, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston tomorrow, Jan. 16. A Christian wake service will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the viewing. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Aston. Donations in her name can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, PA 19014.
