ASTON, Pa. – Sister Georgine Marie Smith, who ministered for 16 years in the Diocese of Wilmington, died June 9 in Assisi House. She was 88 and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 68 years.
Sister Georgine Marie began her education ministry in the diocese at St. Paul School in Wilmington. She later returned and taught at St. Joseph on the Brandywine School in Greenville. She spent 41 years in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and also taught in the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C.
Services will be Wednesday, June 15, in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, Aston. A Christian Wake Service will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a viewing and the Mass of Christian Burial at 11. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. Donations in Sister Georgine Marie’s memory can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, PA 19014.
