ASTON, Pa. – Sister Margaret VanWagenen, who spent four years as a resource teacher at Christ Our King School in the Diocee of Wilmington, died Dec. 19 in Assisi House. She was 79 and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 59 years.
Sister Margaret, formerly known as Sister Florecita, was born in Mitchell, S.D. She ministered primarily in education and child care. She spent 20 years in the Archdiocese of Spokane, Wash., and also worked in the archdioceses of Portland, Ore., and Philadelphia, and in the Diocese of San Bernardino, Calif.
Services will be in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, Aston, on Dec. 21. A Christian wake service begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by a viewing and Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. Donations in Sister Margaret’s name can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, PA 19014.
