Obituary: Sister Rosa Carmichael, OSF

ASTON, Pa. – Sister Rosa Carmichael, who ministered for 18 years in the Diocese of Wilmington, died in Assisi House on March 19. She was 94 and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 70 years.

Carmichael 1946_Rosa71Sister Rosa was a registered nurse and worked at St. Francis Hospital from 1949-68 with the exception of one year. From 1949-57 she was a head nurse and supervisor. She was an instructor in the hospital’s school of nursing from 1957-61, and she returned in 1962 as the director of nursing.

She spent most of her ministry in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and also worked in the dioceses of Allentown and Trenton.

Services will be March 23 in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Ave., Aston. A Christian Wake Service will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., with burial in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. Donations in Sister Rosa’s name can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S.
