Two events are taking place in conjunction with St. Patrick’s Day on March 17.

The St. Patrick’s Day Society is sponsoring its 23rd annual St. Patrick’s Day Communion Breakfast fundraiser on the 17th. Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, 15th and King streets at 7:30 a.m., and the breakfast will follow immediately at the Doubletree Hotel, Eighth and King streets.

The breakfast raises money for the St. Patrick’s Senior Center, which serves the less fortunate of Wilmington. Lunch is served daily, and the center provides other services. Last year, the center served more than 6,200 meals to seniors; delivered nearly 12,000 meals to shut-ins; provided more than 1,000 rides to medical appointments; and helped men and women of all ages with a variety of services.

Tickets for the breakfast are $50 and can be purchased by calling the center at (302) 652-6219, ext. 106.

Before that, the Irish Culture Club of Delaware will hold its 41st annual St. Patrick’s Day parade. That is scheduled for this Saturday, March 12, starting at noon at Fourth and King streets. A white tent will house the hooey that marks the end of the parade at 13th and King.

The parade will include the Wilmington police and fire departments; city, county and state dignitaries; Irish dancers; and various bands. Mayor Dennis Williams of Wilmington will paint a green stripe on King Street on Friday.
