Wilmington native Sister Catherine Marie McGranary, DC, dies at 96

ALBANY, N.Y. – Sister Catherine Marie McGranary, a Wilmington native who was a member of the Daughters of Charity for 69 years, died June 18 at St. Louise House in Albany, N.Y. She was 96.

McGranary-Sister-Catherine-MarieSister Catherine Marie was born Mary McGranary, the only child of Anthony and Mary McGranary. She entered the congregation in 1947. She studied secretarial science at St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg, Md., and pastoral care at Boston College.

Her service included four years at St. Peter Cathedral School, Wilmington (1960-64), where she was the local community superior. She also served in Maryland, Connecticut, New York, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. She worked in education, formation and parish ministry.

She is survived by a cousin, Joan Reardon, of Wilmington.

Services were June 21 in Albany, with burial in St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands, N.Y. Donations in Sister Catherine Marie’s name can be made to the Daughters of Charity, Province of St. Louise, 4330 Olive St., St. Louis, MO 63108.
