Wilmington native Sister Trinita Balbach dies at 91

ASTON, Pa. – Sister Trinita Balbach, native of Wilmington, died March 13 in Assisi House. A professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 70 years, she was 91 and ministered primarily in education, and also in parish ministry.

Balbach 1946_Trinita14Sister Trinita was born Helen Marie Balbach. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish and graduated from Wilmington High School. Her sister, Sister Helena Joseph Balbach, is also a Franciscan and lives in Wilmington.

Sister Trinita ministered for many years in various parts of Florida as a teacher and principal. She also worked for 13 years in the Archdiocese of Baltimore and four years in the Diocese of Charleston, S.C.

In addition to her sister, she is survived by a sister, Frances Balbach, and nieces and nephews. Services will be held Friday in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Ave., Aston, Pa. A Christian wake service begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by a viewing. The Mass of Christian Burial is at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
