Obituary: Sister Regina Mary Leonard, OSF, 87

ASTON, Pa. – Sister Regina Mary Leonard, who ministered in the Diocese of Wilmington for 21 years, died Sept. 27 in Assisi House. She was 87 and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelpnia for 63 years.

Leonard 1951_Regina Mary354Sister Regina Mary, born Anna Margaret Leonard in Baltimore, taught at Holy Angels School in Newark (1971-76) and Immaculate Conception School in Elkton, Md., (1981-84. She served in parish ministry at Our Lady of Fatima in New Castle (1988-89) and Sacred Heart in Wilmington (1997-2001). From 1997-2009 she was a volunteer hospital visitor at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Elsmere.

She also ministered in the archdioceses of Washington and Baltimore, and in New Jersey.

Services will be held at Assis House, 610 Red Hill Road, Aston, on Monday, Oct. 6. A wake service will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a viewing. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., with burial in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
