Thomas à Kempis is the author of The Imitation of Christ, a devotional first published in 1418 in Latin, but still in wide use today. He reminds us that we can often be distracted by the promise of the beauty of heaven and sometimes forget the importance of the Cross. During Holy Week, we are reminded every day in readings and at Masses how powerful and essential being connected to the Cross is for our salvation.
