“ … With a little soap I can easily clean my bed covers, but even with a torrent of tears I would never wash from my soul the stain that my harshness toward the unfortunate would create.”

— St. Martin De Porres

St. Martin De Porres was known for his work with the poor and unfortunate. Today’s quote reminds us that sometimes we’re uncomfortable helping the less fortunate, those on the edges of society. It’s a big challenge for us as Christians; not to pass judgement, but to offer kindness and love.

Today’s Gospel says:

“For just as the Father raises the dead and gives life,
so also does the Son give life to whomever he wishes.
Nor does the Father judge anyone,
but he has given all judgment to the Son,
so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father.
Whoever does not honor the Son
does not honor the Father who sent him.”
