The week in high school basketball tipped off with a girls showdown between top-ranked St. Elizabeth and No. 2 Ursuline, and the host Raiders managed a 55-50 win behind 29 points from Adrianna Hahn. On the boys’ front, St. Mark’s improved to 4-1 Monday with an impressive 52-20 win over Caravel.
Tuesday’s games were wiped out by cold weather, but the slate resumes Wednesday. Here is a look at the action the remainder of the week.
As usual, ladies first.
There are two games of note on the schedule Thursday. At 5:15 p.m., Archmere visits Concord in a battle of top-10 teams. The veteran No. 5 Raiders, who defeated Padua earlier this season, will look to knock off another Catholic school in the 6-1 Auks, currently ranked ninth.
Speaking of Padua, the Pandas host St. Mark’s that night at 7:15 in Catholic Conference action. The Spartans are 3-3 and have not played since Dec. 29, while Padua is 2-5 against stiff competition. St. Mark’s would prefer a low-scoring affair.
On Saturday, St. Mark’s hosts Delaware Military Academy at 2:30 p.m. in the Spartans’ first home game since Dec. 7. DMA will face a tough challenge on the road.
Hodgson visits Archmere at 1:15. It’s another ranked opponent for the Auks as the undefeated Silver Eagles are currently sixth.
The boys’ schedule is a little light after losing Tuesday night’s games, but there are some good ones.
St.Mark’s, now 4-1 and in the rankings at 10th, hosts Middletown at 7:15 p.m. Middletown is better this year than in the past, but the Spartans should be able to take advantage of the home court.
On Friday, Archmere travels to Delaware Military Academy for a Diamond State Athletic Conference tilt. Seniors Tyler Burns (16.1 ppg) and Conor Furey (11.1 ppg) lead this veteran lineup.
A bit later, Salesianum visits St. Elizabeth for a 7:30 p.m. tip. The second-ranked Sals are deep and talented – junior guard Donte DiVincenzo has verbally committed to Villanova – while the Vikings are building with freshman Jordan Money.
Finally, on Saturday, A.I. DuPont visits St. Mark’s for a 7:15 start. The Spartans have this and one more home game before their first true road games of the season.
