Boys sports pick up with battles in football, soccer

The big matchups continue in the second full week of boys high school sports action.

Soccer

Tuesday

St. Elizabeth (2-1) at Newark Charter (2-1), 3:30 p.m. The Vikings are coming off a tough loss at Caravel.

St. Mark’s (1-0) at St. Georges (2-0-1), 3:45 p.m. The Spartans have been off since Sept. 12 and start the week with a tough road game.

Tatnall (1-1-1) at Archmere (2-1), 3:45 p.m. Archmere has won two straight.

Salesianum (2-1-1) at Indian River (1-2), 6 p.m. Salesianum went 1-1 on its road trip to Kentucky, losing the second game to a nationally ranked opponent.

Smyrna (1-1) at St. Thomas More (1-2), 4 p.m.

Thursday

Salesianum at Wilmington Charter (4-0), 3:30 p.m. These teams split two matchups last year. Charter defeated the Sals during the regular season, while Salesianum took out the Force in penalty kicks in the playoffs.

Archmere at Wilmington Christian (0-3), 3:45 p.m.

St. Thomas More at St. Elizabeth, 4 p.m.

Red Lion (1-2) at St. Mark’s, 4 p.m.

Saturday

St. Thomas More at Woodbridge (1-1), 11 a.m.

St. Elizabeth at Polytech (3-0), noon

 

Football

Friday

Brandywine (0-2) at St. Mark’s (0-2), 7 p.m. St. Mark’s lost a second tough game last week at Lake Forest and will try to get into the win column at home.

Smyrna (2-0) at Salesianum (2-0), 7:30 p.m. Smyrna has outscored its opponents, 120-0, thus far, while the Sals’ margin of victory in its two games is 30 points. Baynard Stadium should be packed.

Saturday

Tatnall (1-1) at Archmere (1-1), noon. The Auks’ home opener pits the Archmere running game against Tatnall’s strong run defense.

St. Elizabeth (1-1) vs. Conrad (2-0) at Delaware Stadium, 4 p.m. After losing a battle last week vs. Laurel, St. Elizabeth’s road does not get any easier.
