The girls cross country team at All Saints Catholic School won the 2011 Catholic Youth Ministry championship, which was held Oct. 30 on a 2.25-mile course at Bellevue State Park in north Wilmington. It was the first title for the new regional school, which opened this year from the merged Corpus Christi, St. Catherine of Siena and St. Matthew’s schools.
The Crusaders finished with 28 points, followed by St. Mary Magdalen with 45. The other teams, in order of finish, were St. Elizabeth, St. John the Beloved, Ursuline, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Immaculate Conception and St. Anthony of Padua.
St. Edmond’s Academy was the boys’ winner, defeating All Saints on a tiebreaker. Both teams finished with 36 points, so the winner was determined by the placement of each squad’s sixth finisher. St. Edmond’s sixth runner placed 16th, while All Saints’ came across in 18th. The other teams, in order of finish, were IHM, St. Mary Magdalen, St. Anthony of Padua, St. Elizabeth, Christ the Teacher, Immaculate Conception and St. John the Beloved.
All Saints produced both individual champions. Caroline Foley topped the girls with 13:06.36, while Michael Flanagan crossed the line in 12:05.34.
