MAGNOLIA – A solid foundation, along with some new blood, has brought an excitement to the air surrounding the boys’ basketball team at St. Thomas More Academy.
Coach Cheston Boys returns several key players to a team that went 9-11 last season. Senior Kobe Morris leads the way, along with sophomore Greg Bloodsworth and junior Corey Gordon. Two other juniors, Aaron Scott and Zion Cole, round out the starting five. The Ravens also have added Elias Revelle, a junior who played at Howard last season.
Boyd said his team is “much more athletic, so we look to get up and down the court but also be efficient in our half-court game.” Defensively, they will be able to play man but are prepared to go to a zone if necessary. The excitement level around the school is high, the coach said. Boyd said the entire Thomas More family will have a hand in the team’s success.
An ambitious schedule has the Ravens tipping off Sunday vs. Hodgson at St. Georges Tech in the Upstate/Downstate Challenge. Several out-of-state opponents await St. Thomas More, including Malvern Prep and a trip to the Brawl Behind the Walls Tournament over the Christmas break in Philadelphia. The state tournament should definitely be in play this season.
