GREENVILLE – Two days after their five-game winning streak was ended decisively by Caravel, the Archmere Auks girls basketball team responded with authority, defeating A.I. DuPont, 51-20, Saturday afternoon.

Archmere (12-5) jumped on the Tigers early as senior Katelyn Payne converted two early steals into layups as the Auks took a 6-0 lead. She scored 10 of her game-high 16 points in the opening stanza, including another layup in transition that made it 12-2 with 2:36 to go. At the end of one, it was 16-4 Auks.

The rest of the team chipped in as well as the game wore on. Eleven Auks would make the score sheet as this one was never close. Freshman Camryn Howarth had a particularly effective second quarter, when she scored all five of her points. Senior Amanda Olsen had six points, all in the third.

Next up for the Auks is Wilmington Charter on Tuesday on the road at 3:30 p.m. The Force are 12-3. A.I., which fell to 8-8, looks to rebound at Appoquinimink on Tuesday at 5:45 p.m.
