BRANDYWINE HUNDRED – Coming off back-to-back losses, the Archmere girls’ lacrosse team was in need of a confidence boost, and the Auks found that Monday afternoon. Under sunny blue skies in 80-degree temperatures, Archmere pounded the Bulldogs early on the way to a 20-5 road win.
Four players accounted for 18 of the Auks’ goals. Junior Presley Conaty and freshman Sydney Yanick led the way with five each, while junior Kennedy Murphy and freshman Olivia Baldi tallied four times a piece. Junior Anne Baxter and freshman Anna Roszkowski each found the net once. Four different Bulldogs got on the scoreboard: juniors Cady Burnside and Nicole Fontana, senior Rose McBride and freshman Grace Ruoff.
Less than halfway through the first half, the Auks had already managed a 9-1 lead. Brandywine fought back with two quick goals of its own, but Archmere put an end to any comeback hopes, scoring four of the final five goals of the half. The final score before intermission was a shorthanded tally with just 2.6 seconds remaining on the clock.
Kelley Lucey started the game in net for Archmere and notched four saves, as did her backup, Meredith Wolak. With the win, Archmere improved to 5-7. The team is back at home Thursday at 4 p.m., welcoming St. Thomas More Academy. Brandywine lost for the sixth time in its last seven games and is now 3-8. The Bulldogs have little time to reflect on this loss, however, as Christiana visits on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
