CLAYMONT – Archmere took the suspense out of Wednesday’s boys lacrosse game against Sussex Tech early, scoring nine times in the first quarter en route to a 21-7 win in the first round of the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association playoffs. The Auks, seeded seventh, advance to meet No. 2 Cape Henlopen Saturday at 4 p.m. in Lewes. Cape was a 17-3 winner over Smyrna.

Colin Duffy and Ben Revak each scored three times in the first quarter; both would finish with 5. Archmere (14-2) would keep the pressure on the Ravens throughout the half, scoring seemingly at will. The Auks steadily pulled away, taking an 18-4 lead into intermission.

The teams scored three goals each in the second half.

Anthony Brawley scored four times for Archmere, and Jackson Singewald had a pair. Five players added single tallies. For Sussex Tech, which finished the season with a 10-6 record, Jason Whaley had four goals, with three others scoring once each.

The quarterfinal round will take place Saturday at the home of the higher seeds. The true lacrosse aficionado could see part of every one. At noon, third seed Caesar Rodney hosts No. 11 Dover, the lone lower seed to survive the first round. Archmere and Cape meet at 4. Top-seeded Salesianum battles Delaware Military Academy, the eighth seed, at 6 p.m. at Baynard Stadium, and No. 4 Tower Hill welcomes No. 5 Appoquinimink at 7.

Tickets to all games are $5.
