Boys teams fight for postseason berths in soccer, football

The fall season is winding down in the boys’ sports and this week is key as teams fight for postseason berths.

Soccer

Tuesday

St. Elizabeth (4-7) at Dickinson (5-7), 3:30 p.m. The Vikings look for the road win as they soccerwant to finish the season strong.

Salesianum (11-1-1) at Archmere (10-3), 3:45 p.m. The top-ranked Sals were impressive last week against two tough out-of-state teams. The Auks were handled Dover but face two of the state’s best this week.

Sanford (7-5) at St. Thomas More (2-9), 4 p.m. The Ravens look for their second straight win.

Thursday

Indian River (10-1) at Salesianum, 3:45 p.m. The Indians, the top team from Division II, travel north to face the No. 1 Division I team in a great regular-season final matchup for the Sals.

Sussex Tech (6-5) at St. Mark’s (6-3-4), 4:15 p.m. The Spartans went 1-1-1 last week and would like a win in their final home match.

St. Thomas More at Seaford (6-6), 4 p.m.

Mount Pleasant (4-6-2) vs. St. Elizabeth at Baynard Stadium, 7 p.m. (senior night).

 

Football

Friday

St. Elizabeth (3-4) at Red Lion (1-6), 7 p.m. The Vikings look for the road win after a tough loss last week to A.I. DuPont.

footballWilliam Penn (6-1) at Salesianum (5-2), 7:30 p.m. The Sals have two straight shutout wins after a tough loss at Middletown. The Colonials have won five straight since losing to Middletown. Both teams love to run the ball, so the key matchup will be who can control the line of scrimmage.

Saturday

St. Mark’s (4-3) at Hodgson (4-3), 11 a.m. The Spartans look to end a three-game losing streak and steal a road win over the Silver Eagles as both teams fight for a postseason spot.

Archmere (3-4) at Academy of New Church (Pa.) (1-6), noon. The Auks ended a four-game losing streak with a great win at Conrad.
