There is a lot of tournament action this week involving atholic school teams and here are the schedule and results for those teams this week.
The girls lacrosse semifinal games were held Tuesday night, but both Catholic schools that had advanced that far went down to defeat. Five-time defending state champion and top seed Cape Henlopen defeated Ursuline, 23-3, while Archmere fell to Charter, 15-11. The Auks’ season ended at 14-3, and seniors Amanda Olsen and Kate Payne ended their careers by scoring five goals each against the Force.
Charter and Cape meet Thursday night at 7 at Dover.
The first round of the boys lacrosse tournament began on Tuesday. Salesianum, the top seed, easily dispatched Delaware Military Academy, 15-1. The Sals host the winner of Wednesday night’s matchup between Tower Hill and Sussex Tech. The second-round game will be Saturday.
St. Mark’s advanced to the second round with a 23-2 rout of Indian River. The Spartans, seeded third, next play Saturday against 11th-seeded Middletown, who upset sixth-seeded Delmar on Tuesday.
Archmere, which is seeded seventh, opens tournament play Wednesday at home vs. Caravel at 4 p.m. The Auks are 11-4 but are coming off a 9-8 loss to Delmar. Caravel is also 11-4. Admission is $5. Should the Auks advance, they will meet the winner of the Cape Henlopen-Brandywine game, also scheduled for Wednesday.
Division II girls soccer moves into the second round on Wednesday as No. 1 Archmere plays Delmarva Christian at 5:30 p.m. at Caravel Academy. The Auks, who had a first-round bye, were 14-1 in the regular season, including a 7-0 shutout of Delmarva Christian on April 5.
Padua, the second seed in Division I, opens tournament play Thursday vs. Newark at 5:30 p.m. at Caravel. The Pandas finished the regular season 13-1-1, while the Yellow Jackets are 10-3-2.
The baseball brackets will not be completed until the regular season ends on Wednesday. Pairings will be announced Thursday. Three Catholic schools – St. Mark’s, Salesianum and Archmere – are expected to make the tourney, with first-round games scheduled for Saturday.
Finally, the softball regular season ended Tuesday, and tournament pairings should be out Wednesday or Thursday. Padua should be in the field, but other Catholic schools are on the bubble. The postseason begins Saturday.
