Catholic Youth Ministry held girls and boys basketball championship games Feb. 23. The girls played at Padua Academy, the boys at Salesianum School. The results were provided by the CYM office.
Girls
Diocesan: Holy Angels needed overtime to defeat St. Elizabeth No. 1, 48-46. Kendra Warren scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Angels. Camryn Scully added nine points and four rebounds, while Kaylee Otlowski had eight points. Lauren Park-Lane and Kayla Braxton-Young paced the Vikings with 10 points each.
Y1: St. Joseph on the Brandywine took the title with a 14-9 win over Holy Cross. Sophie Sanchez had six points and Elena Attix four in the winning cause. Caitlyn Finfinger scored five for Holy Cross.
Y2: It took overtime, but Ursuline No. 2 outlasted Immaculate Heart of Mary No. 2, 20-16. The leading scorers for the Raiders were Theresa Chua with 10 points and Gianna Occhiolini with five. IHM received six points from Brandy Conte and four from Rose Langrehr.
Boys
Diocesan: Nate Thomas scored 19 points to lead St. Anthony of Padua to a 52-49 win over St. Edmond’s No. 1 in double overtime. It was St. Anthony’s first diocesan title. Gavin Ford added 16 points for the Tigers. St. Edmond’s Adam Barksdale had 13 points.
C2: Immaculate Heart of Mary No. 1 defeated Christ the Teacher No. 1, 43-36, for the championship. Ryan Walsh paced the Spartans with 13 points, while Craig Congo had 11 and Brendan Wilhelm seven. Yazel Enchautegui tied for game-high honors with 13 to lead Christ the Teacher. The Eagles also eight from Tyler DeCampli and seven from Francis Markiewicz.
Y: St. John the Beloved No. 2 scored a 28-23 win over St. Mary Magdalen No. 2. Jimmy Rich and Thomas Hearn had seven each for St. John the Beloved, and Sal Guariano had five. Zachary vanWickle scored eight points to lead the Bulldogs.
