CLAYMONT – Wilmington Friends made 20 free throws in a 42-36 win over Archmere in nonconference boys basketball Dec. 10 at Mogila Fieldhouse. Senior Jordan Perkins spent the most time at the line, making 12 of 13 attempts on his way to a game-high 18 points.

The Auks led, 9-8, after a quarter, but the game changed in the second as the Quakers went on a 9-0 run to take a 17-9 lead. Junior Ryan Chompre hit two big three-pointers in that run, and Friends led, 20-12, at the half.

basketballBoth teams struggled offensively in the third quarter, missing missed many open looks, and the Quakers took a 25-18 lead into the final stanza. Perkins took over in the fourth, scoring 10 points including four of five from the foul line as the Quakers extended their lead to 42-24.

The Auks fought hard and ended the game on a 12-0 run in the final minute. Darren DiRenzo had an old-fashioned three-point play, Sean Kelly and Andrew Pinto each added three-point field goals.

The Quakers improved to 1-1 and are off until after Christmas, when they host the Quaker Classic. The Auks (1-1) got nine points from DiRenzo, eight in the final stanza. They head to Conrad on Tuesday night for a 6 p.m. start.
