WILMINGTON – Middletown scored two quick second-half goals to defeat Ursuline, 4-2, on April 11 in nonconference girls soccer at Serviam Field. The Cavaliers avenged a 1-0 Raiders win last season.

Rachel Finelli, who would end the game with three goals, got the Cavs on the board first. She beat the defense and shot the ball into the right side of the net in the 21st minute for the 1-0 lead.

soccerThe Cavaliers controlled the play in the first half, but Raiders goalkeeper Allie Olmstead made some great stops to keep her team in the game. A Middletown goal before halftime was disallowed on an offsides call, and it was 1-0 at the half.

The Cavaliers struck early in the second as Finelli took a pass from Alexandra Rodriguez and buried it to make it 2-0 in the 41st minute. Two minutes later, Middletown scored again as Rodriguez took a cross from Meghan Jolikko to increase the advantage to three.

Ursuline started to get some attack time and converted on a corner kick as Alisha Lewis headed one home in the 52nd minute. The Raiders almost cut it to one in the 65th minute when Lewis hit the crossbar on a 30-yard shot.

Finelli completed the hat trick in the 68th, pouncing on a rebound to make it 4-1. Lewis scored the final goal in the 80th minute, her second of the game.

The Raiders (1-1-1) travel to A.I. duPont on Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. match. The Cavaliers (4-0) travel to Delaware Military Academy on Thursday at 3:45 p.m.
