LEWES – St. Elizabeth had gotten off to a 6-0 start this boys basketball season, including an impressive win over St. Raymond’s (N.Y.) on Monday at Slam Dunk to the Beach at Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes. The Vikings met 5-1 Mount Pleasant on Tuesday on the final day of the annual tournament, dropping a 65-42 decision to the Green Knights, who came out on fire and took any doubt about the result away early on.
Freshman KVonn Cramer scored 19 points, including two highlight-reel dunks, and senior Rob Myrick added 12 for Mount. The Green Knights were particularly dominant in the first half, owning the inside game. Cramer scored eight points in the first quarter, all of them from the paint, as Mount ended the first with a 16-8 lead.
The start of the game had been promising for St. Elizabeth, as junior swingman Jordan Money hit his first three-point attempt. After that, however, the Vikings could manage just three free throws until Brian Miles knocked down an eight-footer with 10 seconds to go in the first.
The Green Knights opened the second quarter with a 10-0 run, including six straight for Myrick, who scored all of his points in the stanza. Cramer spent part of the quarter on the bench, but he celebrated his return to the court with a second crowd-pleasing slam. Mount led at the half, 37-19, shooting 50 percent from the field and outrebounding the Vikings, 23-9.
Money scored eight points in the third and finished with 12 to lead the Vikings. Elijah Dockery added nine. St. Elizabeth will be back in action at Catholic rival Salesianum on Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
Mount improved to 6-1, rebounding from a loss to Bishop O’Connell (Va.) on the opening day of Slam Dunk to the Beach. The Green Knights travel to Appoquinimink on Jan. 5 for a 5:45 p.m. start.
