CLAYMONT – Archmere starts a new field hockey season with a new coach for the fourth straight year, as Stephanie Gant takes over an Auks team that improved last season and wants to get stronger.

Gant has a great message and goals for her team. “It’s a new beginning, a new opportunity for growth and development.” She wants to mold the squad “into the team we have the potential to be.”

field hockeyThe Auks’ schedule is strong again this year, and the coach has a simple approach.

“We need to stick with the basics — sticks down, be around the ball, having a good defensive corner unit, playing hard and not giving up.”

A pair of seniors, Leah DaCosta and Lorin Donovan, lead Archmere.

“We put a lot of people in new spots and have new people in the starting lineup, and I’m interested in seeing how it works in the opener,” DaCosta said. She will be able to see the results starting Friday afternoon at Concord.

Donovan shared some of the goals that see sees for this team. “We are learning to work together as a team, transition up the field well, and play with intensity all the time.”

The Auks are looking to be competitive and hopefully they can make the postseason this year.
