BRANDYWINE HUNDRED – Kierstin Fallers led a potent Padua offense with three hits and five runs batted in as the Pandas defeated Concord, 14-5, on April 16.

Her biggest hit came in the fourth with the bases loaded and two outs. Padua had just taken a 5-4 lead on a bases-loaded walk to Caitlyn Baxter. Fallers then cleared the bases with a triple over the leftfielder’s head, and she scored on a wild pitch as the Pandas extended the lead to 9-4.

softball“I knew I had to get the bat on the ball so we could add to the lead,” Fallers said.

Padua scored a first-inning run thanks to good base running. Concord’s Rachel Pritchard countered with a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning to give her team a 2-1 lead.

The Pandas recaptured the lead with three in the third on an RBI single by Baxter and doubles by Fallers and Abby Cunningham, but Concord battled back to tie in the bottom of the frame on a two-run double by Mary Plasmier.

The Pandas had the big fourth inning, then added four more runs in the fifth on five hits and aggressive base running as they stole four bases. Each team added one more run before game’s end, with Plasmier and Fallers picking up the RBIs.

Cunningham pitched all seven innings for her fifth win as she gave up five hits. Padua (5-0) travels to Newark Charter on Monday at 3:45 p.m. Concord (3-2) hosts Newark on Thursday at 3:45 p.m.
