CLAYMONT – Wilmington Friends came into its field hockey showdown with Archmere on Sept. 27 not having allowed a goal all season. They left Claymont with that record intact and remained unbeaten after a 2-0 win.

The Quakers controlled the action from the beginning and got a goal on their third penalty corner. Christina Aleman fired a shot that was saved by Auks goalie Mady McDougal, but Anna Erskine was there to put home the rebound for the 1-0 lead at the 23:15 mark of the first half. Friends had seven penalty corners in the first half, but the Auks’ defense did a great job of keeping the score 1-0.

Archmere started applying pressure in the second half, but the Quakers defense was stout in limiting the Auks’ chances. Archmere almost tied it up five minutes into the half when a Lorin Donovan shot on a penalty corner was denied by Quakers goalie Emma Davis.

The Auks continued the pressure, and with 18 minutes to go Leah DaCosta his the post. Archmere took most of the second-half penalty corners, but the Friends’ defense and Davis turned them away.

With 2:06 left in the contest, the Quakers caught the Auks in a counter-attack, and Carson Davis-Tinnell scored off a penalty corner to seal the win.

Friends improved to 4-0 and faces Wilmington Charter on Friday night at Rullo Stadium on the University of Delaware campus at 8 p.m. Archmere drops to 2-2 and travels to Tatnall for a 3:45 p.m. start on Thursday afternoon.
