BEAR – The top-ranked Ursuline Radiers traveled to fifth-ranked Caravel on Feb. 20, staying unbeaten against Delaware opponents with a 58-43 win.

The Raiders jumped on the Bucs early, as senior Kailyn Kampert scored the first six points of the game with three free throws sandwiched around a three-point shot. They stayed hot, as Alyssa Irons hit back-to-back triples, and it was 14-0. Ursuline’s lead grew to 18-3, but Caravel ended the first quarter on a 6-0 run.

The Buccaneers scored the first bucket of the second quarter to cut the Raiders’ lead to seven, but Irons drained a long three to build the advantage back to 10. After Caravel climbed back to within 29-22, Maggie Connolly hit consecutive layups to give the visitors a 33-22 halftime lead.

Caravel responded with a strong third period as Maia Bryson scored seven points, and with two minutes left in the third, the Buccaneers were within 39-34. An Olivia Mason field goal at the buzzer gave Ursuline a 43-36 lead heading into the fourth.

Mason’s hustle helped start a big fourth-quarter run for the Raiders. Caravel was again within five before Mason scored and was fouled. She missed the free throw, but she got her own rebound and was fouled again. Mason hit the first free throw. She missed the second but again grabbed the rebound and fed Connolly for a triple to increase the lead to 49-38.

Alisha Lewis then scored seven straight points to cap a 13-0 run and making it 56-38.

Lewis led the Raiders with 12, while Connolly added 11 and Kampert 10. Ursuline is now 14-5 and finishes the regular season Tuesday at home against No. 3 Concord, which brings a 19-0 record into the game. Tipoff time is 7:30 p.m.

Bryson had 14 points for the 13-6 Bucs, who finish the regular season at home Tuesday against Woodbridge at 6:15 p.m.
