WILMINGTON – Salesianum’s lacrosse team, the top-ranked squad in Delaware, continued its ambitious schedule on the afternoon of April 23 when Hill Academy of Vaughn, Ontario, Canada, visited Baynard Stadium. The Pride, the top-ranked team in North America, escaped with a 10-9 overtime victory in front of a crowd that included several other lacrosse teams eager to see the two powerhouses match up.
Hill came in with an undefeated record against some of the eastern United States’ best competition, but Salesianum provided the stiffest challenge yet. The Sals took a 4-2 lead in the first half, but the Pride scored three times in the last 42 seconds of the second quarter to take a one-goal lead into intermission.
The Sals fought back to forge a tie, but Hill – a sports academy located in the Toronto suburbs – managed to sneak out of town with a narrow win. The Pride completed a successful weekend in the Delaware Valley, having defeated LaSalle College High School of Wyndmoor, Pa., the night before. They are now 9-0.
The Sals are now 8-2, with their other loss coming at the hands of Culver Academies of Indiana. They are back at Baynard on Wednesday at 5:30 to meet Shawnee (N.J.).
