Schmeusser scores six to lead Raiders lacrosse past Riders, 18-12

WILMINGTON – Bridget Schmeusser scored six goals to pace a powerful Urusline Raiders past the Caesar Rodney Riders, 18-12, in nonconference girls lacrosse on April 25. Schmeusser also added two assists, and Jane Lyons added four goals and one assist.

Caesar Rodney got off to a good start as Kourtney Olsen scored on a man-up for the 1-0 lead. The Riders had three more quality chances to add to their lead, but UA goalkeeper Erin Davis made some great saves.

lacrosseThe Raiders would then score the next four goals, with Erin O’Doherty tallying first to tie it. Schmeusser added two and Lyons one as it look like the Raiders were pulling away.

The Riders closed it to 6-4 on a goal by Olsen with 12:36 left in the first half. Olsen also got the last two goals of the half to cut it to 9-6. Olsen was at it again to open the second half as she scored to get them within two.

They got no closer as the Raiders netted four of the next six goals for a 13-9 lead Katherine Shroyer a freshman scored back to back goals to give the Raiders a 16-10 lead with 14:56 left. The Raiders went into a patient offense in the last 15 minutes as they held on for the win. The Raiders (6-2) are off until May 3 as they travel to Newark Charter for a 3:45 p.m. start.

Olsen led the Riders with seven goals. CR (4-5) travels to top-ranked Cape Henlopen on Wednesday night for a 6:15 start.
