Second-half surge keeps Pandas field hockey undefeated

BRANDYWINE HUNDRED – Ashlee Brentlinger scored two second-half goals to lead Padua to a 2-0 win over Concord in nonconference field hockey action Friday afternoon in Brandywine Hundred. The win keeps the Pandas undefeated (10-0-1) heading into the final games of the regular season.

Both teams played a defensive first half as neither generated much in the way of shots and penalty corners. Padua turned up the pressure in the second, and Brentlinger was able to convert a penalty corner at the 19:32 mark when she knocked in a rebound of a Jill Sherman shot.

DSCN6226 (1280x872)The Pandas kept the pressure on, but Raiders goalkeeper Anya Marshall was up to the task to keep the score 1-0. Brentlinger was finally able to extend the lead to two with 11:31 remaining after taking a nice pass from Abigail Boudart. Padua keeper Hailey Power preserved the shutout with an impressive save shortly thereafter.

Padua outshot the Raiders, 14-2, and had 12 penalty corners to Concord’s seven. The Pandas host St. Thomas More on Tuesday at 3:45 on Senior Day, whole Concord (5-5-1) is home against Charter on Monday at 3:45 p.m.
