Last week was a great one for high school basketball fans, with some very exciting games. This week looks like a repeat, with a renewal of the state’s biggest rivalry coming on Friday night. With that, this week we’ll start with the boys’ schedule.
Monday: Salesianum vs. Constitution High School (Pa.) at Concord High School, 5:15 p.m. The second-ranked Sals are 9-1 after a big road win Saturday at Sussex Tech. They have not lost to an in-state opponent. Constitution has two losses this season and will be a tough foe. The game is part of the Concord Classic, benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer.
Tuesday: St. Thomas More at Conrad, 5 p.m. The 3-9 Ravens look to end a five-game losing streak.
St. Mark’s at Sanford, 5:15 p.m. The seventh-ranked Spartans have won six straight and are 8-1 after a road win Saturday at Dover. Their first of two tests this week is No. 1 Sanford, which is 7-3, with all of the losses coming to out-of-state teams. Matt Williams and Nick Papa lead the Spartans, while Sanford features shooters Anthony Mosley and Todd Hughes.
Tower Hill at Archmere, 5:30 p.m.: Archmere is a quiet 9-1 and sixth in the state rankings, but the Hillers are off to a great start themselves, sitting at 9-2. This should be a very entertaining matchup.
Thursday: Archmere at St. Elizabeth, 7:15 p.m. The Auks return to action in a showdown with the Vikings, who earned a win at Milford on Saturday night. Jordan Money and his teammates look to pull off an upset at the St. E Center.
Friday: Laurel at St. Thomas More, 6:15 p.m. Laurel travels to Magnolia, but at 9-1 they are likely to be unwelcome guests.
St. Mark’s at Salesianum, 7:30 p.m. Delaware’s version of the holy war returns with both teams off to a great start. Tickets will be sold at the schools this week. Get to Salesianum early for a seat and a parking spot; the atmosphere inside will be electric.
Saturday: Charter at St. Elizabeth, 1:45 p.m. Charter is 4-4 this year, and St. Elizabeth will be looking for wins to compensate for a tough start to the season.
The girls also have some big games on the schedule this week.
Tuesday: Padua at St. Elizabeth, 7:15 p.m. The No. 2 Vikings are coming off a 67-66 overtime loss to No. 4 Caravel and will be looking for a sweep vs. the Pandas. Padua has won three straight.
Caravel at St. Mark’s, 7:15 p.m. The Spartans are 6-4 and have won two straight, while Caravel comes in at 7-2, losing only to out-of-state teams. For Caravel, this is the second of three straight games against Catholic schools.
Wednesday: Middletown at St. Thomas More, 5:30 p.m. The Ravens do not have much depth and are 3-8 this year, while Middletown is 3-7 and coming off a win vs. Mount Pleasant.
Thursday: Padua at Hodgson, 6:30 p.m. Padua plays the third of eight straight road games at No. 6 Hodgson, which is 11-0.
Ursuline at Caravel, 7 p.m. Neither one of these teams has lost a game to a Delaware opponent yet this year and are coming off impressive wins. Top-ranked Ursuline (8-2) defeated No. 5 Concord by 20 points on Friday and features junior guard Adrianna Hahn. Caravel has multiple talented players, including Micah Moore and Caroline Davis. Expect the Caravel gym to be sold out.
Friday: Archmere at Conrad, 3:30 p.m. The Auks (6-4) look to put a tough loss to Padua behind them against Conrad, which is 6-3 and coming off a big win over A.I. DuPont last week.
Sunday: St. Elizabeth vs. Episcopal Academy at Spring Ford High School (Pa.), 9:30 a.m. The Vikings hope to add a nice out-of-state win to the schedule.
Ursuline vs. Academy of Notre Dame, 11 a.m. This will be another out-of-state challenge for the Raiders.
