Ss. Peter & Paul makes a difference against hunger
EASTON, Md. – The student body and faculty at Ss. Peter and Paul High School recently participated in an event with Kids Against Hunger, raising more than $2,000 to provide food for more than 7,000 meals. These meals will be distributed to communities nationally and globally to help fight hunger, the school said.
After team-building activities, the students packaged the meals assembly-line style. They gathered 34 large boxes of food, enough for about 7,200 meals.
St. Elizabeth shares success of iPad program
WILMINGTON – St. Elizabeth High School faculty members Jess Shoja and Kammas Murphy shared the success of the school’s ViFi program with other educators through the Delaware Digital Learning Conference: Online, which was sponsored by the state Department of Education.
The pair talked about content delivery in a one-to-one iPad school. Shoja and Murphy led participants through a review and demonstration of how St. Elizabeth uses digital technology in multiple subject areas. They also showed textbook replacement models and explained how content can be supplemented at little to no cost.
Archmere musician to play in Penn honor band
Archmere freshman Griffin Anderson recently was selected to represent his school in the invitation-only University of Pennsylvania Honor Band at two events in the Philadelphia region. Anderson is one of more than 75 students from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and New York in the band and the only one from Delaware.
The honor band, now in its 10th year, participated in a daylong workshop and concert. Anderson studied with John Purcell, formerly the senior ceremonial trumpeter in the United States Air Force Band, and he performed at the Episcopal Cathedral on the Penn campus. The second event takes place March 1, when the honor band will join the Penn band and play during the Quakers’ men’s basketball game against Yale at the Palestra. St. Mark’s senior headed to Shakespeare competition
WILMINGTON – Jake Diana won the English-Speaking Union Delaware Shakespeare Competition earlier this month and will represent the state at the national event May 4-6 in New York City.
Diana, a senior, was victorious with his performance of Benedick from “Much Ado About Nothing” and his recitation of Sonnet 73.
His trip to New York will include educational and cultural activities, including an acting workshop at New York University and a visit to the William Shakespeare statue in Central Park. At the national competition, he will be eligible to earn a full scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts’ Young Actors Summer School in London and to the American Shakespeare Center’s Theatre Camp in Staunton, Va.
