Sullivan’s career high lifts Spartans boys past DMA

MILLTOWN – Senior Billy Sullivan scored a career-high 17 points leading host St Mark’s past the Delaware Military Academy Seahawks, 45-34, in nonconference boys basketball on Dec. 16.

basketballThe Spartans got a strong start by Sullivan, who scored the team’s first five points, but the Seahawks hit three three-pointers to grab an early 9-5 lead. St. Mark’s ended the quarter on a 5-0 run to tie it at 12, as Chris Ludman had a three-point play and his brother Eric hit two free throws with .2 seconds left in the quarter. The second quarter was a defensive battle, but a Zachary Palmer triple gave the Spartans a 19-15 halftime lead.

The Spartans found their long-distance shooting in the third quarter as Sullivan hit two long balls to help the hosts extend their lead to 32-27 at the end of the third quarter. The lead continued to grow in the fourth thanks to big baskets by Sullivan and Chris Ludman; it was 42-31 with 1:37 left. They held on to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Chris Ludman added nine points for the Spartans, who are off till Dec. 27, when they play in the Boardwalk Classic in Wildwood, N.J. DMA got 10 points from Conner Gee. The Seahawks travel to Wilmington Christian on Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
