Tower Hill overwhelms Archmere in girls lacrosse quarterfinals

WILMINGTON – Tower Hill got six goals from Kiva Walsh and five goals and seven assists from Abby Manning in an 18-7 win over Archmere in a quarterfinal-round matchup in the girls’ lacrosse tournament at Tower Hill. The Hillers (13-3), seeded third, will face No. 2 Polytech in the semifinals Thursday at Wesley College in Dover.

Sixth-seeded Archmere started strong, with Delaney Dearing scoring 26 seconds into the contest. That is when Walsh and Manning went to work. Walsh scored off a feed from Manning to tie it at 1 with 21:15 left in the first half.

lacrosseManning scored, then fed Brianna McCoy to make it 3-1 Hillers. She then assisted on the next two goals, both scored by Walsh, and with 15:32 to go Tower Hill was up, 6-1. Manning found the net on a man-up situation, and McCoy added her second.

Sydney Yanick ended the eight-goal Tower Hill run, but Walsh and Manning struck again before Yanick’s second tally cut it to 10-3. The powerful Tower offense struck again, adding four more goals before halftime; the hosts led, 14-3, at intermission.

The second half was played with a running clock, as Archmere never got the deficit below 10. Manning and Walsh scored two minutes apart to give Tower Hill a 16-3 lead. Kennedy Murphy picked up the final two Archmere goals in the last few minutes.

Archmere finished the season at 12-4.
