Ursuline falls to Concord in softball battle of the Raiders

BRANDYWINE HUNDRED – Concord hosted Ursuline in a key softball showdown on April 30, and the Concord Raiders used a big fourth inning to push their way to a 6-2 victory. Concord was led by Sarah Raab, who was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run batted in, while Mary Plasmier went 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBI.

Ursuline threatened to score in the first as Antonia Browning reached on a wild pitch on strike three, and she advanced to third on a single by Grace Nordmeyer. The visiting Raiders were unable, however, to bring a run home.

softballConcord reached the scoreboard in the bottom of the third as Olivia Christy led off with an infield single and scored on a single by Plasmier. Rachel Pritchard singled in a second run.

Ursuline tied it up in the top of the fourth. Gina Hallman doubled and moved to third on a single by Browning, who then stole second. Hallman scored on a groundout by Nordmeyer, and Browning came home on a wild pitch.

The host Raiders put the game away in the bottom of the inning. Christy, who had singled, scored on one of Raab’s doubles. Pritchard walked, and Plasmier brought both in with a triple. Plasmier then scored on an infield single.

Ursuline (3-5) hosts Smyrna Monday at 3:45 p.m. Concord, which got 10 strikeouts from Pritchard, improved to 6-4 and travels to Mount Pleasant on Monday for a 3:45 p.m. start.
