Ursuline rolls to win in home opener

WILMINGTON – Ursuline showed why it is the top-ranked girls basketball team in the state in a 64-22 win over undefeated Dover on Tuesday night.

Playing their first game at home, the Raiders got two quick three-pointers from senior Kailyn Kampert and sophomore Maggie Connolly. They went on a 10-0 run in the first two minutes, and Dover struggled with the Ursuline defense. Later in the quarter, Connolly hit back-to-bak threes to give the Raiders a 24-5 lead. They were not done, as freshman Alisha Lewis scored on consecutive layups, and it was 28-5 at the end of the first.

basketballThe Raiders kept up the defensive intensity in the second, holding the Senators to 13 points in the half. Ursuline had a 30-point lead at intermission. The lead grew in the first four minutes of the third as Connolly, Kampert and Lewis all scored on fast-break layups.

Ursuline improved to 2-1. Connolly led the way with 17 points, while Kampert had nine. The Raiders host archrival Padua on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The Senators dropped to 3-1 and are off for 13 days before playing in the Pat Borowski Tournament at Lake Forest on Dec. 28.
