GREENVILLE – St. Elizabeth’s boys basketball team, ranked third in the state, defeated Christiana on Dec. 2 before dropping a decision to A.I. DuPont in the finale of the A.I. DuPont Tiger Tip-Off.
The Vikings took care of Christiana in the opener on Friday with an 82-25 win. Senior Jordan Money led the Vikings with 23 points, including 15 in the second quarter alone. St. Elizabeth started strong as Eiljah Dockery hit a mid-range jumper and a long-distance trey. Nate Thomas and Money also added buckets, and the lead was 27-11 after a quarter. Dockery had nine in the first.
Money scored eight points in 40 seconds in the second stanza, starting with a four-point play. He nailed the long three-pointer and added the free throw after getting hammered on the shot. After a steal of the inbounds pass, he had a two-handed throwdown that had the gym rocking. He capped off the run with a layup after a strong drive to the basket. The lead at the half was 52-18. Thomas excelled in the third, scoring eight points, and the Vikings extended their lead to 69-21.
Dockery finished with 16 points, and Thomas added 15.
Against A.I. on Saturday, the Vikings let a nine-point halftime lead slip away in a 67-61 loss to the host Tigers. Money finished with 25, and Dockery had 11. St. Elizabeth is back in action on Thursday, traveling to Concord for a 5:15 p.m. tip.
